Learn to Sail!
The Peterborough Sailing Club offers sailing lessons for adults. These introductory sailing lessons will be taught by Sail Canada certified instructors.
Students are evaluated throughout the course, and will be eligible to obtain up to a CANSail 2 certificate at the completion of the course. Participants will learn the basics of sailing and meet new friends in a fun group environment.
Students will spend 18 hours with Canada Sail Instructors, in the classroom and on the water. Lessons will be conducted in club sailboats. (Albacores, Wayfarers, and Lasers) at the Instructors’ discretion.
Course enrolment is limited so be sure to sign up early!

Registration Details
Note: Space is limited. You are not considered registered until receipt of the completed registration form, signed waivers and payment in full.
1) Minimum age: 19 years old as of May 11th.
2) You must be able to swim 20 meters unaided.
You will be expected to wear a properly fitting Department of Transportation/Canadian Coast Guard approved life jacket or PFD. This may be purchased through a local boating supplies store or an outdoor sporting goods supplies store.
3) Recommended clothing:
Water shoes with non-marking soles. No open toes or bare feet.
Swimsuit (or other quick-dry clothing you don’t mind getting wet)
Windproof/waterproof jacket
Sun hat, waterproof sunscreen
Complete change of warm clothes (there are change rooms at the club)
6) Attendance
It is important that you attend all classes. Each lesson builds on the previous session. Missing any class could jeopardize your chances of obtaining your CANSail 2 certificate.
Make-up days in the lesson schedule will only be used if a previous class is cancelled (usually due to inclement weather). They are not for students to make up for missed classes.
7) Location:
All lessons will be held at the Peterborough Sailing Club, located at 3121 Cottage Lane, Lakefield, Ontario, K0L 2H0, just north of Young’s Point, about 30 minutes from Peterborough, 12 minutes from Lakefield, or 20 minutes from Bridgnorth.
8) Refunds:
– Up to two weeks before first lesson date: Full refund
– Up to 1 week before first lesson date: Full refund less $75 admin fee.
– Less than one week prior to the first lesson date: No refund will be issued unless the spot can be filled by another person. If the spot is filled, a full refund will be given, minus a $75 administration fee. At the discretion of the Training Officer, this fee may be waived for club members or under special circumstances.
