About Us
Since 1967, the Peterborough Sailing Club has been the go-to spot for sailors in the heart of the Kawarthas. Our club is a tight-knit community that welcomes sailors of all stripes, whether you’re just starting out or have a lifetime of experience. This diverse mix of individuals with a shared love for sailing creates an atmosphere that’s not only incredibly fun but also wonderfully friendly. It’s the perfect place to dive into the sport and make lasting memories on the water.
Location and Facilities
Nestled on the shores of Clear Lake, which we proudly consider the best sailing spot in the Kawarthas, our Club is truly a gem. You’ll find us just a short 25-minute drive from Peterborough, a stone’s throw from Young’s Point.
Our setup is tailor-made for dinghy sailing enthusiasts. We have boat storage and launching facilities that can accommodate around 50 centerboard craft, each up to 16 feet in length. If you have a slightly larger trailer-launched boat, we may be able to accommodate you; please contact us at Membership@PeterboroughSailingClub.org. We also offer ample dock space and two convenient launching ramps, handling your boat is a breeze.
Don’t own a boat? We’ve got you covered for that too. The club owns a fleet of 6 Albacores, 4 Wayfarers, 8 Lasers, and 4 Optis. Club boats are available to all members, but must be helmed by a member with a minimum CANSail 2 certification.
When you’re not out on the water, our cozy cottage clubhouse has all the comforts you need. There’s a fully-equipped kitchen for your culinary creations, a lounge area for some good company, gas barbecues for those tasty cookouts, and clean washrooms and change-rooms to freshen up. The surroundings are equally charming, with picnic tables and shade trees, creating the perfect setting for relaxed moments. And if you fancy a swim, Clear Lake is right there, easily accessible from our dock or the shore. It’s paradise for water enthusiasts!
Board Structure and Roles
The Peterborough Sailing Club is run by a dedicated team, with a Board of Directors at the top, including the Commodore, Vice Commodore, Secretary, Treasurer, and Safety Officer. Supporting them is an Operations Manager, who works closely with a group of Officers responsible for various areas like Communication, Race and Regatta, Fleet management, Membership, Property, Social activities, Training, Website and Marketing. Together, they ensure the club runs smoothly. For more details on each role, check out the list of job descriptions here.
Driving Directions
From Peterborough, head north on Highway 28. About 2.8 kilometers north of Young’s Point, turn right onto Clear Lake Road. As you descend down the hill, the shimmering waters of the lake start to reveal themselves. Just before you reach the water’s edge, take a left onto the road that follows the lakeshore, and keep an eye out for the Peterborough Sailing Club entrance gate on the right.
