The Peterborough Sailing Club (PSC) has been a part of the Kawartha community for over thirty years. Located on Clear Lake, 2.8 kilometers north of Young’s Point, the Club is easily accessible and about a 20 minute drive from Peterborough.

The PSC has offered adult sailing lessons for many years in a variety of formats. This year, for Members of the Peterborough Sailing Club,  we will be offering a 4 week series of introductory sailing lessons. The lessons will run in June on Sunday afternoon, Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Participants will quickly learn the basic information necessary to be comfortable handling a sailboat. The lessons will be conducted by Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) certified instructors. At the completion of the training, participants will be eligible for CAN Sail 1 certification. Not only will participants learn the basics of sailing, but will also meet new friends and have a great time learning a fun water sport!

Students will spend 30 hours in total, in the classroom and on the water. The PSC can provide sailboats (Albacores, Wayfarer and Lasers) for student use or,  you may use your own boat.

Course enrolment is limited to ensure that everyone will receive individualized instruction.

Registration Details

Note: Lessons are for members of  the PSC. Space is limited. You are not considered registered until receipt of both the completed membership registration form and payment in full.

1) Minimum age:  19 years as of May 31.

2) You must be able to swim 20 meters unaided.

You will be expected to wear a properly fitting Department of Transportation/Canadian Coast Guard approved life jacket or PFD. This may be purchased through a local boating supplies store or an outdoor sporting goods supplies store.

Note: Everyone must wear a Canadian Department of Transportation  approved PFD or life jacket at all times when in a boat or on the docks.

3) Recommended clothing:

• Deck shoes or water shoes with non-marking soles
• Swimsuit (or other clothing you don’t mind getting wet)
• Windproof/waterproof jacket
• Sun hat, waterproof sunscreen
• Complete change of warm clothes (there are change rooms at the club)

4) Fees: 

For members of the PSC, lessons are offered for $150.00 per person, payable via the membership application. Course materials are provided.

All lessons will be held at the PSC property, located at 3121 Cottage Lane, Lakefield, Ontario, K0L2H0, just north of Young’s Point, about 20 minutes from Peterborough, 12 minutes from Lakefield, 15 from Bridgenorth.
